I have renewed the vinyl headlinings on my HT27. However I didn't want to remove the windows to wrap the vinyl around the fibreglass on the cabin sides. This means I need some sort of trim to finish off the vinyl around the windows (rubber or wood trim) Has anyone done this before and can they recommend a supplier for trim that will bend around the window shape. I think I need an L-form trim about 15 x 15 mm.
Any help/comments welcome.

When we owned Camargue (HT Mk 3), we had precisely the same problem.
After much research we concluded that it wasn’t cost effective to get anything manufactured…so ended up making the frames ourselves.
In the end we created a plywood frame for every window in Camargue, using 9mm teak faced marine plywood and drilled holes to align with the original window nuts. To smarten things up we also purchased 5mm S/S window screws and set these into the wooden frames.
If you want to see the results I would recommend you take a look at some of the photo’s on the following website: Camargue
In terms of effort, we were able to produce two frames a week working just a couple of hours each evening….and then fitting them at the weekend (at the same time as re-bedding the actual window in fresh mastic).

22nd February 2008 at 10:41 am #11657Bruce, Thanks for your help. Your plywood frames look terfific. It finishes the windows off much better than the original, I think. I had slowly come to the conclusion that that was the only way to go, but wasn't relishing the work required to make the frames, especially considering there are four different types of window and I've got many other tasks in hand to get the boat up to scratch!. Did you cut out whole frames or have a split in the middle to save waste?

I cut whole frames on the basis that I felt it would look better….but appreciate that there is some wastage.
10 years on, most of this has been used in some way or other (backing pads…etc) so it wasn't really waste……but of course there was the initial outlay.

29th February 2008 at 8:57 am #11659We done a similar thing on our old HT but used MDF. This can be sanded and stained to a good finish and of course not so expensive.
