Would appreciate any suggestions re outboard choice. The Honda 15 on my recently acquired HT26 seems to have potentially serious corrosion problems. The Yamaha 9.9 high thrust sounds good. I presume extra long shaft required? What length is that? Also where to get best deal?

      Cheers….Iain

        Dear Iain

My understanding is that any of the makes will do the job, but yes you need the long shaft. The biggest problem is getting one that fits what you have without major alteration to enlarge the space. Look carefullly at the space you have and the measurements of the engine you like the look of to make sure it will fit with minumum disruption. Good luck.

Hi Iain – we bought a new 9.9 yahama extra long shaft (high thrust) from BHG Marine last year. It doesn't seem as good quality as the older models but it is lighter. There isn't a steering lock (optional extra) but we managed to modify for our boat by using the steering rod supplied.

We have had a problem with it sucking in fumes at idle speed which caused it to stall. We get over this by opening the engine hatch door.

It cost us about £2100 and we paid monthly over the year (think this was interest free through Yamaha Finance).

It also comes with five year warranty.

Whilst it doesn't seem as good as the older models it is still the best engine for the job.

          Hope this helps.
