I will shortly be looking to buy a HT, and would like some advice.

Which models have the STOOP THROUGH?

Has anyone ever turned a stoop through into a second HEADS?

Other than an outboard or centre diesel with hydraulic drives, are there any other central engine options? Such as a small diesel with a saildrive or a sterndrive out the back of the nacelle.

Other than normal wear and tear and the usual problems in older boats, are there any problems specific to HTs that I should look out for when buying?

Welcome Barry! Your questions in order. Only the later HT27s had the stoop through as they had more freeboard than the earlier models and just about enough height.

I don't think you would have sufficient height to make a second heads in that area.

I don't know of any single, central diesel configurations. If you are having the single engine, why not go the whole hog and have the excellent manoeuvrability of the hydraulics driving two propellers? The ability to manoeuvre with twin props is most useful especially in a marina or tight space, or difficult conditions.

The very early marks had some problems with enough support at the base of the mast. I think that the vast majority have been reinforced now, but you just might find an old one with mast compression, I know several surveyors very experienced in multihulls, if you need one at the time you buy.

        Regards

        Chrissie
