Hi, I am the new owner of Twin-Lens an HT27 currently in the BVI. I am planning to sail her back to UK in June this year. I have no idea of the average daily mileages I might be able to achieve, have you? She currently has a standard mainsail, 150 and 130 genoas and a storm jib. I will (if I can locate one) be carrying a cruising chute. I will probably be motoring through the worst of the doldrums. It is about 4100 miles give or take. I am intending on doing it in one leg. Basic passage plan subject to alteration for weather is N past Bermuda, NE until I reach the Westerlies, then the GC to the Western Approaches. Everybody, and I mean everybody keeps asking me how long it is going to take ! Will it be 72 mpd, 96mpd or 120mpd? Experienced estimates most welcome. Oh, I will be on my Jack Jones so this might alter the numbers

I suggest that you contact Mike Dwyer who has done now 4 (or maybe 5) Atlantic circuits UK to Caribbean and back. I think he usually stops Bermuda and Azores on his trips, but his expertise would be invaluable. I'll send you a private message with his e address. Look for a message in your inbox which you will find just below the log out button on the home page. May I suggest that you become a member of the HT Association. You would benefit from the articles in the newsletters, and would get the opportunity to meet and sail with other members too. You also get an invite to the AGM weekend where we talk boats ALL weekend. It's a great source of information and also great fun. contact me if you wish to join on oceanswan@hotmail.com

And we are sweating over maps and rescue-stuff to cross the north-sea a mere 104nm this summer!
Are you considering a weblog or homepage, so we can track you and HT27?
regards

Juup, I will have satphone with me and intend uploading vid's to u-tube (if the fees are not too expensive !) Will post info prior to sailing…higgy6th May 2008 at 11:51 am #11687we used a satphone on the last AZAB race. the bill was astronimical just downloading GRIB files and daily voice position reporting just under £1000 in a month. dont even dream of uploading video unless you own chelseaFC!!
Work on a blog off line and Burst transmit to save airtime. Have you thought of an HF SSB you can then use sailmail to get free e.mail and weather etc . wish wed done that.1st June 2008 at 6:43 pm #11688Hi Higgy
All the HT blogs I have read have spoken about a planned passage speed of 5 to 5.5 kts. I will be using 5 as base for my passage down to Turkey in September
