Hello All,
I hope you can help with a question about standing rigging on a HT26. What size of 1×19 SS (316) wire would you use. And I'd really like to know what the HT26 was originally supplied with? The current rigging is a mess I’m not inclined to use it as a guide. I can't believe a 3mm lower shroud is correct! All the guides I can find talk about monohulls. Are cats sized the same way? I would tend to think cats have higher loads.
Thanks for any insights.
Ed19th February 2010 at 12:29 pm #11864Hi Ed
Allegro III – which is a Mk. 3 HT started with 4mm lowers, 5mm caps and backstays and a 6mm forestay, all 1×19. As I carry spairs I changed the lowers to 5mm. So now everthing is 5mm except the forestay which is 6mm.
Hope this helps.Mike
Allegro III19th February 2010 at 3:04 pm #11865Thanks for that info Mike.
When you say “started with 4mm lowers…” do you mean from the factory or just when you took possession? Also what is the build year for your HT?
Currently I'm thinking I'll replace all standing with 1/4 inch (approx 6.3mm), then I'll need only one size of spares.25th February 2010 at 6:46 pm #11866Just an update, I had the rigging all sized and spec’d out almost ready to hit the order button when someone mentioned Colligomarine.com. They use rope for standing rigging, very interesting stuff. I’m in email contact now and If the pricing isn’t too crazy I think I’ll give it a shot. I’ve used the amsteel rope in some applications and have been impressed. This Dux stuff is supposed to be even better. We will see.
Ed10th March 2010 at 2:29 pm #11867FYI decided on 1×19 316SS wire not the rope. The rope has much high life cycle cost that for me outweighs the benefits. I'm detailing the refit on my website.
