As I am installing two inboard diesels in “Ni Dieu Ni Maitre”, I wonder which is the best location for the exit of the exhaust pipes to avoid the fumes to go back to the cockpit ?? Under the deck between the hulls?? at the aft near the rudders? on the extern sides??
What is your experience???? Thank You12th January 2007 at 1:35 pm #11418Hi Yann
Our exhausts are just above the waterline. They exit a few centimeters in front of the aft cabins (within the engine compartment) but outside, not between the hulls.
This way you can check the exhausts from the cockpit. We do this more than you think. To check the cooling, fumes or proper running.
As the waterintake is at the inside (under the boat) you often check the exhaust to see if there are no waterplants obstructing the cooling.
We brought our HT27 over Rhone and Rhine to
Holland and no excessive fumes or discolouring occurredon the hulls. Just some, but easy to clean off. Ills send you a picture.12th January 2007 at 3:20 pm #11419I would worry about putting the outlet between the hulls, with the build up of heat; suppose you ran the engine in the marina/at anchor for an hour or so to charge the batteries, what would the hot exhaust gas do to the gelcoat? I'm sure I've only ever seen them like Juup's. It's more of a problem with an Eberspacher because you run that a lot in a marina and it means you can't raft up- or is that a benefit 🙂
