Hello all
Grateful for any advice on the following:-
We have a Star Twins 34 with Yanmar 1GM(stbd) and 2GM (port) diesels. Odd, I know. Engines are both raw water cooled. Has anyone fitted a calorifier to either engine? I've been told by Yanmar agent that the water temp isn't high enough for decent supply. True or false? Are there convenient access point on the engines to take off the primary water supply to the calorifier.
Any affordable solutions – it's miserable washing in cold water!
Regards

We have intercoolers and the calorifier work just fine as the thermostat regulates the cooling liquid to maintain 80 degrees celcius.
Our Nanni's have a special point just after the thermostat for attatching a calorifier.
Now back to the Yanmars, Don't they have a thermostat to regulate the temperature? Must be, I think. Otherwise the engine would be cooled with 5 degrees cold water. So if there is one, just find the nearest coolingwater hose after the thermostat and you'll be fine to tap from that point to the boiler.
I hope this helps

Thanks for the reply. Can we come round to your boat for a shower?
Yes, we have a thermostat but I'm told this is set to 50C.
I wonder if it's possible to fit a 'stat with a higher opening temperature. I suppose the risk would be to the exhaust hose and anti-syphon bottles if the water is too hot. Also the stat may spend longer in the closed position so the flow through the calorifier might be too small. I expect the only way to find out will be to try it.
Regards
