If you look around the HTOWOA website you will find a lot of discussion on electric motors as replacements, got its attractions I think. However I have a twin hydraulics set up with a central diesel perkins 18hp. The manoeuverability is fantastic and essential | think. You can't get that with one engine/prop (see also discussions on website), but the one engine twin hydraulic is the cheaper alternative to two diesels and much less costly and heavy and extremely reliable I think. Worth the investment?
Happy canal touring- all that close quarter work you definitely need two props!
