Hello Jon
We have intercoolers and the calorifier work just fine as the thermostat regulates the cooling liquid to maintain 80 degrees celcius.
Our Nanni's have a special point just after the thermostat for attatching a calorifier.
Now back to the Yanmars, Don't they have a thermostat to regulate the temperature? Must be, I think. Otherwise the engine would be cooled with 5 degrees cold water. So if there is one, just find the nearest coolingwater hose after the thermostat and you'll be fine to tap from that point to the boiler.
I hope this helps
Juup
