Buffy we drilled holes in our bed base We knew it was only plywood, so now it looks a bit like cheese with holes, then we added a layer of garden trellis like you train plants on to give an air gap under the mattress. Problem solved. Not sure how well it would work in the 40 degrees you get sometimes, but should be good. Yes air underneath from time to time when convenient too. Cheers. Chrissie
