Reply To: Water Lubricated Shaft Seals

Alistair, as you didn't run the props, it should be fine. I say this because I had an old deep sea seal which I had to replace while afloat, and I closed it up and opened it a few times (without problems over a month while I grappled with getting the prop shaft off!) I tell you, when you do something like this when afloat, it is impressive how much water comes in through such a small opening! Quite a lesson initself.
