Hi Iain,
I don't own a Patterson catamaran but am interested in their sailing performance… (actually considering buying one…)
A bit more work but apparently a drastic improvement is what has been tried by Ryan last year, read his post on adding a bowsprit with a screecher…
I don't know what wind angles you HT owners manage to sail but Ryan mentioned :

Managed to go to what I estimate to be 45 degrees to wind, which is a vast improvement on what it was before.
I believe the another purpose of a screecher is improving the light wind sailing capability, you will need less wind to start sailing…
Kind regards, Djeeke
