Hi Higgy,
When I owned Camargue (HT III) , I installed a plastimo Narvik unit on her transom (positioned centrally). From this I led the control lines through blocks direct to both wooden tillers (each tiller had only one line attached [mounted on the innermost edge] so you are reliant on the internal /external tie bar to move the other rudder).
Thie installation proved to be very successful….but was a bit of a pain to set-up on the basis that all the controls are on the unit meaning you are visiting the transom everytime you want to make an adjustment. This is'nt a problem when doing extended passages…but for messing around in the bay, I would suggest you stick with some form of autohelm.
Additionaly I recall reading in PBO many years ago an article where a home-made unit was built/attached to a HT that I understand was very effective. As it happens I can lay my hands on this document so if your really interested I happy to scan the paperwork and publish on my website (address below).
Regards
Bruce
