I have the twin double cabin configuration on my HT27 and under the mattresses in both cabins it is a solid wood base and I'm finding that the underside of the foam is getting quite wet and needs regularly lifting and a heater or in summer the windows and hatches all left open to let them dry properly… Does anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with this issue or what you've done to correct this on your boat?

      Many thanks!

Buffy….I have installed the Froli sleep system in my Mk1….does a great job of both providing a great mattress support, but also allows air flow under the mattress to prevent moisture buildup. Here is the web site for the US distributor:

        http://www.nickleatlantic.com/index.html

Just checked the web site myself and I see that they are manufactured in Germany, so should be no problem getting them in the UK.

You could try the IKEA slats. Not tried myself but have been told they work quite well

Plenty of different sizes and cheep cheep!

The moisture is from you and drains through the foam because, I believe, it is “open cell”. You can get foam that retains the moisture and then “breathes” it out.You might find that a layer of memory foam would do the trick but I stand to be corrected on that. I have the same problem and when I get around to dealing with it will speak to a company like Foam.co.uk who have all types

            Don and Dave,

Thank you both kindly for taking the time to reply and for your suggestions. I am down under in Australia with my HT but I will look into the solutions you have proposed and see if I'm able to implement either. Thank you again and your time to post is very much appreciated. If anyone else has any other suggestions, please keep them coming 🙂

            Cheers!

              Hi Buffy

IKEA exists in the southern hemisphere as well!

If all else fails you could stuff a koala under the mattress at each corner…should give ventilation

Buffy we drilled holes in our bed base We knew it was only plywood, so now it looks a bit like cheese with holes, then we added a layer of garden trellis like you train plants on to give an air gap under the mattress. Problem solved. Not sure how well it would work in the 40 degrees you get sometimes, but should be good. Yes air underneath from time to time when convenient too. Cheers. Chrissie
