I recall a sad tale of an HT that now resides at the bottom of the English Chanel. She holed one hull, the water slowly rose to the bridge deck, then down she went.
Closed cell foam (Stryrofoam, not pour-in polyurethane which is not) is the thing to use.
Prior to that I would first make sure all the bulkheads are waterproof or can easily be made so.
My question (not an owner) is can the bulkheads either side of the engine compartment be sealed?

All depends on how much crap you fill the boat with! In my very limited experience owners seem to add plenty because of all the space cats have. If you're mean use all those nice plastic bottles (with their caps on!) you buy liquids in and throw away and fill all available outasight spaces. Anyhow everyone knows that cats can't sink or flip over or ground…..
