      The restoration of The Dash is coming along quite well, especially with the help provided by Rob Blood. One item we came across is a wood plaque with two numbers carved on the face.

      1) O.N. 377954 (Assume “N” is for number, but what does the “O” stand for)

      2) R T 4 20/100 (Again, assume “T” is for Tonnage, but what does the “R” stand for)

      Was this standard on a MK1, or did one of the owners create it?

      Still trying to find out a little history of the boat.

        Hi Don,

        The wood plaque that you describe relates to the Certificate of British Registry.

        O.N. stands for Official Number.
        R.T. stands for Registered Tonnage.

        When you took ownership of “The Dash” the MCA (Maritime and Coastguard Agency) should have been informed of any changes to the ships particulars or ownership.

        With regard to the plaque, typically this is purchased at the time of registration and should be bonded to some part of the vessel such that it cannot be removed. In days gone by I believe the requirement was that it should be carved into the deck beam.

        Additionally you should have a supporting certificate that your meant to keep on board….but this pre-supposes that it is still in date (5 years between renewals).

        The certificate details things like;

        Name of Ship
        Call sign
        Registered Port
        Type of Ship
        Length
        Breadth
        Depth
        Gross Tonnage
        Net Tonnage
        Registered Tonnage (Our HT 27 reads 5 22/100)
        Year of Build
        Name of Builder
        Country of Build

          Bruce….Thanks very much for the informative response. I guess once it crossed the pond to the US any subsequent owner would not have renewed the registration. I will send them a letter and see what information that can provide about this O.N.
