On our HT27 we don't have any means of emergency steering.
There is a tubular bracket on the Starboard rudder which could take
some kind of tiller but it is directly behind the aft shroud therefore restricting the movement.
I am wondering what other solutionsa there are for the HT27 .Regards, Steve
18th January 2010 at 8:12 pm #11847Hi Steve, I have struggled with this problem myself. My untried suggestion would be to have a custom made tiller bar with a large C shaped bend in it to avoid it fouling the backstay. This would need a specialist in stainless steel. There I can help you. Quay Metalworks work from Birdham. The mans name is Rob. 07891 127047. Mention me, he will work with you to find a solution. He is not expensive. He works with me. I can get stainless steel fabricated where I work so no problem there.
I will have to draw something and see how it works.

1st February 2010 at 11:19 pm #11846I checked out our emergency steering arrangement this weekend and we don't have the same problem you've described. The tube on outside edge of the starboard rudder is not welded parallel to the rudder but rather at an angle to it of say 30 degrees (ie to steer a straight line the tiller is angled to starboard). Full lock to port just clears the backstay.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for that – I will try that to see if it works on ours.
