      Hi there,

      My S-L Anchorman windlass is pretty much at the end of it's useful life and I was wondering what others have fitted.

      I was contemplating fitting a Lofrans Royal (manual horizontal windlass)…but thought I'd get other owners views.

        Hi Bruce,

        I bought a Royal but couldn't see how to fit it, for a start it was the wrong way round for the hatch with the chain poening and there disn't seem to be a space on the foredeck. I know you're a lot more resourceful than me – so i eargerly await news!

        I sold the Royal and had been looking at Anchorman's but they are pricey.

          Thanks for your kind comments.

          So far I've obtained the full spec sheet for the “Royal” including all the critical measurements. Next weekend I'm planning to measure the raised moulding on Drummer to see how it best fits (if indeed it does fit!) ….before I place the order.

          With regard to chain opening, I'm anticipating that I wil need to drill a hole directly below the windlass (into the stbd locker) and store the anchor rode there rather than in the port locker. If this is the case, I'll then grind, fill and polish the existing opening so that it nolonger exists.
