Dear all
Can anyone with cabin heating tell me where their heater is fitted. I have a Propex in the stbd single berth with the exhaust and combustion air venting into the cockpit. The fumes gather in the cockpit well and leak into the cabin even with the door closed. Has anyone managed to vent through the outer sides of the hulls.

I have just completed fitting a propex to the out side hull on my HT 27, half way along the crawl through.
I swopped my combined inlet/exhaust mounting for a flush face single fitting ,similiar to Erberspachers for the exhaust and used a standard plastic through hull fitting for the air intake connected to the metal piping supplied. The inlet pipe does not get even warm.
The exhaust outlet must be within a metre of the heater because the unit uses a plain fan blower rather than a drum blower (like a hampster wheel) which can create a greater pressure.( so I was told).
The air intake does not have to be on the outer hull but could be still in the cockpit . Once again you are limited to the distance away from the unit 1 metre.
I got the exhaust fitting from propex themselves at Southampton. They are not a standard stock item but the chap had one made up for me locally.I am now lovely and warm but there is the fear of melting the fenders?
Good luck Dave Rush12th February 2008 at 6:52 pm #11649Hi Dave,
I'm looking to install a propex (or similar) shortly and I'm hoping you can describe in a bit more detail where you've positioned the unit, “Y” splitter (I assume you have one?) and where you've run you duct/positioned the outlets.
Thanks

I am sorry to say I only installed a single outlet configuration but do understand your problem. I resolved my problem of heating the main cabin and aft cabins by fitting two heaters. I got a very very very good deal.
The main cabin outlet is positioned directly under the chart table and angled inwards and upwards at 45 deg' allowing the air flow upwards into the main seating area.
The aft cabin outlets run along the back of the stern shelving passing through the inter cabin bulk head.
I have used a splitter in this configuration but it is a “Half Y ” type . the unit itself is installed in the port aft cabin high above the steering linkage and exhausted out through the inner face of the rudder protrusion . Have not yet
fully completed this one yet .hope this helps a little

Thanks for your prompt response.
Two heaters….I was concluding the same!!
In your earlier response you indicated that one of your heaters was positioned half way along the stoop/crawl through on the outside edge of the hull , so I was just wondering how you managed to run approx 50mm duct from there to an area almost directly under the chart table? Do you actually mean directly under the chart table or do you mean directly below the door threshold blowing upwards @ 45degrees?

The ducting initially turns 90 degrees downwards from the unit, then turns 90deg' again to face the bows. It then passes through two bulkheads . the second bulkhead being the one which supports the right had rotating spindle of the chart table when facing the chart table, it appears out just below the bottom of the table when in the closed position. Approx' 18inches of the floor, at this point I made a box mounting to enable the ducting end piece to be mounted at 45deg' facing inwards . The actual ducting end unit itself allows you to rotate the face upwards to direct the air into the seating area.
(I bet thats as clear as mud)
I not sure if this the best position for the outlet but a little bit of trial and error needs to be applied.regards Dave r
