Hi
Its that time of year to antifoul our HT27.
Does anybody know how much paint I will need to get two coats?
Its so expensive that I hate to throw any away!
Also any manufacture recommendations for Chichester Harbour.Regards, Steve
3rd April 2008 at 12:48 pm #11671Hi steve n mel,
Many years ago I purchased 3ltr's (2.5ltrs + a free .5 ltr) …and still ended up buying an addition 750ml.
Since then I made an initial purchase of 2 x 2.5ltr (approx 1/2 can left) and with this remainder I supllement it with an additional 2.5ltr's every year.
Works well for me …and helps keep the costs down!
In terms of recommendations I can only comment on what I use which works very well in Dartmouth on a non drying mooring – International Micron.
Hope this helps.

Just the info I needed – now off to the swindlers to part with a large lump of money 🙂

I've just scraped of 6 layers of antifouling , filling and sanding the protective epoxy coating and added a COMBINED epoxy and antifouling layer. One liter per side = 4 liters. Ive measured up the underwater square meters and it is 7.2 M2 per side (rudders included). The access paint was used to double-coat the keels.

have a look! It is (in Holland) the only copper containing underwater paint. The motivation is that because the copper is in epoxy it won't be released into the water. Therefore it is advertised as a 'green' antifouling too.

We put 2 coats of antifouling on and used about 3 litres.
Yours method sounds like a lot of work but should be good if it works, and lasts!. We have an old layer of coppercoat or similar but other owners have overcoated it with normal antifoul so I guess it stopped working.
