      hello
      I want to make two new water tanks for NDNM. I would like to know where your tanks are located and how much gallons you can have on board.
      I plan to put them on the top of the fore buoyancy compartements, but I would like to have your opinion..

        We have two 120 liter stainless steel watertanks in front on top of the boyancy compartments. When totally filled the HT27 tilts a bit foreward.
        If I had the chance of installing new watertanks I would choose a place near the centre of the hulls. Under the sofa's in the maincabin would be ideal, I think.
        The rockinghorse motion on short waves would be less, I guess.

          It's exactly what i feared. Your idea to locate them under the seat seems rather good, may be a little noisy with water movement, but with some foam it would probably be an easy problem to solve.

            When I fitted out The Cat & The Fiddle I made fibre glas floors the water tanks are all of the hull galley side and part of the hull heads side all weight is therefore low and central.

            I know to do this post build is a big job but well worth it if doing a big refit.

              Voile-la (HT Mk4a) has 2 seperate installations in each fore-peak. This consists of a 100 litre flexible bag which delivers water to it's respective area (heads + Galley) via a manual pump. We have found this to be very economical with the water and has the advantage of keeping possible contamination to one area. The other advantages are ease of installation – replacement, cleaning and the ability to get to the buoyancy compartment easily for seasonal inspection. The make that we have used are Plastimo – double skinned and reliable, even when filled vigorously. Hope this helps.

                What sort of inspection hatch do you have for the forward buoyancy area? There's nothing on Muddy Paws.

                  Distant Drummer (HT 27) also has 2 separate installations in each fore-peak of 120 ltr's (above the buoyancy chamber/inspection hatch)….but unfortunately there have been occassions when the flexible water bags (Make: Stowaway) have developed leaks. As a result I'm now looking to change these for Stainless Steel or Polypropylene (Tek-Tanks). Given the limited access to the forepeak on the bow of the HT 27, I was wondering what shape/dimensions Juup's tanks are?

                      100 long, 40 narrowing to 20 wide, 30 high in cm. The material is not stainless steel at all, but a sort of thick plastic or polyester e.g.

                        Hi Juup,

                        Thanks for the info…..pretty much as I suspected without spending an absolue fortune on two tanks placed side by side. I measured the access hole on “Distant Drummer” this weekend {42cm wide x 26.5cm high and 130cm long) but I will need to create a quick paper/hardboard template to establish where the narrowing starts.
