Hi, looking back over other threads I've found at least two other brave souls (Jann Bouchet & Martin Hickson) rebuilding their HTs virtually from scratch. I'd be really interested in your updates, and if you've got any wisdom to impart…
I thought I was starting on interior fitting out until I decided to reinforce the cockpit floor and found that one of the support beams (see Jann's earlier post) was rotten. Tricky, dirty and uncomfortable but I managed to hack out the rotten section and replace by laminating in several strips (thank god for epoxy). I've installed a very beefy steel mast support and one of my next 200 jobs is rebuilding the doorframe and surrounds…. still wondering how best to paint the deck and cockpit… have decided to fit led lights throughout to cut electricity usage and site switch panels in navigation station… blah blah blah

I am presently fitting two inboard Volvo diesel and trying to correctly mount the shafts through the hull…. quite difficult and not easy at this time because of the weather temperature, not very fine for epoxy working.
Best regards

Congrads on what you are attempting.
Yann, I think that is a substantial investment, what made up your mind. I think we all would like to know what was the final straw.Steve
2nd November 2007 at 5:13 pm #11577Apologies Yann for misspelling your name… what did you do about your rotten cross beams? I thought about twin engines until I worked out the cost… with the recent drop in HT selling prices you can buy a complete boat with engines for not much more!, er perhaps I should have done that instead of buying a wreck (if I ever see that surveyor again I'll…) anyway good luck bill
2nd November 2007 at 8:16 pm #11578Well, if i start to add the different costs, I directly go to hang myself!!! the goal was not to have a cheaper ship. It's more a personnal challenge : I wanted a British cat, a lot safer in my humble opinion than the French ones, and I want to sail with my grandsons aboard, so I want to know exactly were is the least bolt and how to fix anything on board. And I want to know if I able to do it!!!!
I replace the rotten beams by a “canvas” of stainless steel square tubes, who allow to be partially unbolted, giving head upon the engines in case of major maintenance. The weight is not so heavy compared to the wood, and it's a lot stronger. ,I know it's quite “bizarre”, but I am myself quite “bizarre”!!!!!! 🙂 - AuthorPosts
