I have just bough an HT27 from multihull world at Emsworth and very helpfull were the sales team too, but I don't want to keep asking them for advice, they've got a job to do! So I thought I would ask the HTOWOA members for some advice and help.
My HT 27 needs two new lower pintles for the rudders. Does anyone know if these are available as off the shelf items still, or will I have to have them fabricated by copying from the old ones?
Out of interest to anyone:One of the pintles sheared in heavy seas and the other has streaks of rust possibly indicating internal corrossion or fractures. From my recent experience I recommend checking the lower pintles especially (the bolts of the upper support bracket also sheared when I attempted to remove them and were obviously corroded internally too by the way, so I am renewing all the bolts.)
I also need two new propellors because the current ones have galvanic corosion. Can anyone recommend a propellor manufacturer (I have twin hydraulics).
Any advice and help gratefully received.
Alastair Sutherland29th November 2006 at 12:37 am #11383Regarding replacement propellers would suggest you contact Vetus (Vetus Den Ouden Ltd).
ian.bowles@vitessemarine.co.uk (Vetus distributors) should be able to help.
Typical prices range from £108.10 to £126.90 for a 12″ to 14″ prop respectively – for a fixed 3-bladed propeller (type P3B) that is suitable for “displacement” craft with speeds of up to 10 knots. Alternatively you could consider a Bruntons Varifold/autoprop propeller (david@bruntons-propellers.com) but you will be looking £800+ each.

Thanks very much for the propellor contacts. I will go for the fixed props, I'm not in for any races and besides have heard varying reports on folding props, which at £800 each are not for me. Certainly the two bladed props I have at present were reported by the previous owner to give 6.5 Knots, I can't imagine the HT hulls will allow much above that under power anyway.
I will contact vetus as suggested, thanks.
