My HT 26, Amon-Re, has a 9.9 Hi Thrust Yamaha which clamps onto a thick plywood panel which, in turn, appears to sit into v-shaped slots in the sides of the engine bay. I also have two 'wedges' which, I imagine, hold the engine from tipping when in reverse. Am I correct in thinking that to retract the engine you would first have to remove the two wedges and then manually tilt the engine back, this would give about 45 degrees of retraction? Do you then have to use the engine tilt to get the full retraction? How is the engine held in the retracted position?
Also, the engine has a bolt on attachment which locks it into the straight ahead position. It would obviously be very desirable to be able to 'steer' the engine. Does anyone know if this has been done?

At Thornham marina is HT Star Shadow. She has a frame work for raising and lowering the engine and it does away with this board and wedges arrangement.
If you are near to Thornham Marina (home of Multihullworld) you could pop down and view the arrangement. You would need to revamp your existing engine cover arrangment to cope with the increased height when the engine is raised. However it may be taller but it can be made slimmer giving more space in the cockpit around the base and sides.Martin Hickson (HT Soltrykk)

Just saw your other posting re engine retraction. Unfortunately (?), I live in New Zealand now so a visual pnspection would be a bit costly. It certainly would be an advantage to reduce the size of the current engine 'box'.
